Have you ever seen those dogs that have a relationship with their owners that is so strong that no distraction can tempt them from straying away from what they have been asked to do? Before you say, “I could never have that with MY dog” I’d like you to consider if you did have that kind of relationship, what kind of impact would it have on your life…and the life of your dog? In the words of Audrey Hepburn,
“Nothing is Impossible, the word itself says I’m Possible!”
Yesterday I released the first of four videos in my latest dog training series that focuses on the role of “Choice” in our dog training. In this first video, three dog owners from various corners of the world, share their stories with us. It is as inspiring as it is heartwarming. Each story is like a ripple being send out into the world, each carrying a different message of hope and change.
Here is the link to the series, as a reader to my blog (and therefore odds are you are also a like-minded dog lover)…I am confident you are going to be blown away by this video.
If the link above doesn’t work, you can copy and paste this into your browser: www.brilliantrecalls.com …when you get there be sure to download the Training Guide that I am giving away!
Today I am grateful for the JOY my dogs bring into my life, and to have a small role in the joy that others bring to the lives of their dogs.
SO TRUE, NICE JOB
Hi Susan, Are you doing a recallers course soon? My dog is really in need of it.
Hi Susan!
Great iniciative. But, when is The trainning open again!?
I’d like to participate lol
Regards.
Just watched the video ‘Ruby’s Recallers Story ‘ Susan and I must say it was a very inspiring video. Glad Ruby was healed. 🙂 As a dog lover, the happiness that our dogs bring to us is really different. Will surely look forward to watch your future videos. 🙂
I love the new videos! Each story is so cute. It’s lovely to see dogs and their owners having such trusting relationships. I think you should keep training your dog throughout its whole life. Just 15 minutes a day is enough.
I would love to watch the video… is it still available or do you have to be a member to watch? I clicked on the link that took me to a page saying Recallers 5.0 is closed.
I can’t find the information on when Recallers 5.0 actually starts
can you please give the dates for the start/finish of the course?
thanks
Danusia
Hi Susan, really loved the video, do you think dogs can ever reach an age where they cant be thought? does this vary from breed to breed in your opinion?
James
Can I really do this in just 5 minutes a day? I have a new baby and my relationship has suffered with my 10 month old BC. I am not giving up on her…I want to build a bond with her…but can I do this with a new baby??
I’ve been able to watch all 4 videos now and they’re really great. I’ve learned some things just from the little hints of your method in the videos. Watching the way Susan interacts with her dogs and the idea of making training FUN has influenced my behavior. The only reason I haven’t signed up for Recallers is that I only have internet access at work. If I ever get my own computer I’ll sign up 1st chance I get. Thanks Susan.
You have inspired me with dog training and I hope to do the same. I was originally put on to reinforcing and shaping behavior by Pawsitive Vybe (PVybe) as I found them in my area when I was looking for someone to help train my dogs. I cannot tell you how happy I was to have gone to them and not someone else. Once I learned this style of training I was absolutely amazed by how it works.
Just today I listened to you speak on The K9 Sports Connection Podcast, and it was so awesome to hear someone articulate everything I have learned in such a clear way. It is inspiring and exciting to help spread this method of training, and great to hear someone sharing all of this information.
When I heard all of the different questions from people it really showed me that not enough people understand giving dogs a choice and marking and reinforcing what you want them to do. There is no need for any negativity or corrections, and the bond is so incredible.
I also have a journal of all of my work and training. It helps me see things from the dogs point of view, as well as keeps an archive of everything we did together. I think it is a great tool to be able to evaluate and watch yourself. If you are interested in seeing the positive journey with my dogs you can check it out at http://rustgrizzy.com .
Thanks again for the inspiration and I hope more and more people quickly realize the better way to train!
Thank you!!! Yup I’d signed up for the promo videos and such over there. I’m excited and really want a chance to do this course, not just for my dogs but also for some things I can transfer over to my birds.
After watching the second video tonight I actually decided to try Its Your Choice with the birds (the dogs have all done it, I’m just not good at expanding), but I definitely wanted to try it with the birds, especially since one is a biter any time he gets frustrated.
Susan Garrett may be a dog training, but her techniques can often carry (as shown in the zookeeper part in video 1) to other animals and for the first time…I was able to have a handful of really high value treats in the palm of my hand and have the birds backing up and making the choice to wait for me to give it to them. (-cough- Their ‘normal’ is to greedily pounce and if you try and remove it, to squabble and attack the hand trying to take the goodies away. So woot!!).
I need help and would like to know how itsyerchoice works I have a three year old female Shepard who takes and does as she pleases. Help please!
I love the new promo videos. I love the production value and the multiple cameras and editing – all of it. Every year Susan and recallers just gets better and better.

Hi Susan, I’ve got 3 beagles, live in uk in a village surrounded by fields. I took each beagle to dog training & everything was great but out in the fields they don’t pay any attention as there too busy chasing rabbits & hares & will only come back when they are ready, which could be 3 hrs later. I now don’t let them off leash which is a great shame as we all enjoyed walks better with free running. Please can you help a desperate pet owner.
Thanks to you Susan I now have a dog that parents at the demo said “I wish I had a dog like that.” And asked “I want a dog behaves like yours.”
I told them about you and gave them links. I hope they follow through. Fly and I still need work but things went very well Tuesday and I was so proud of my dog. We did agility then visited and then played with some of the kids. It was so much fun to have a focused dog.
How cool is THAT Dianne. Congratulations, love, love, love that!
The whole video is great (LOVED the individual stories), but I can’t tell you how many times I replayed the clip with Swagger doing “pretty” on his momma’s head. The cutest! How can training not be a joy with clowns like that? 🙂
