To start today I am happy to announce our five winners in the 5 Minute Recallers video competition from last week. For those that are wondering, yes judging the top five was based on the percentage of votes each video received daily (rather than the total numbers).
So our winners (starting with the highest percentage of votes) are;
1.How I Became a Cookie with 60% of the days votes
2. Bermuda with 54%
3. Talking Dobie tied with Recalls from Slovenia at 44%
5 Lolipop had 42%
I think it is really cool that our five winners come from four different countries from around the world! How cool is that? Really! So many great videos.
To think, I had my “top 5” picked prior in my mind before I asked for your help. But only 2 of my top five made the cut into the top 5 and one of them was voted last on their day! Goes to show you the quality of the competition. And no I am not going to tell you what my picks were, I don’t want anyone feeling badly that I didn’t “vote” for their video. I loved all 15 — actually I had a list of 35 I wanted to post!
Thank you to everyone who voted and to those that put in the work to enter the contest!
And for some more cool news today I kick off with a sneak peak for EVERYONE into my Recallers course for free. I recognize, based on all of the buzz surrounding these great videos that there will be people that will want to get into my Recallers class that will not. In response to that, I have put together a series of three short webinars for everyone to enjoy — but just for the week.
These webinars are hosted on the uber cool new home of the Recallers course. The first time you enter you are going to have to “sign in” to see webinar. Sorry if that is a pain, especially for those of you that have already signed up to one of my lists this week!
I just know you will agree the content of these three webinars will be worth the effort of signing in.
So go to http://the5minuteformula.com/recallers.html enter your name and email address and an email will be immediately sent to your inbox– you go there, confirm that it was you that signed up and the webinar will start immediately. Todays webinar is just over 22 minutes long. It is part of a presentation I intended on putting on a puppy DVD but you get it this week only for free!
Over the course of these three webinars you should get some insights and ideas into how to clean up not only your recall that may need some polish, but your general dog training and how everything is so interrelated.
That link again for the webinars is http://the5minuteformula.com/recallers.html I would love it if after you watched you took the time to give me some feed back in the comments section!
Today I am grateful for each of you that took the time to watch and appreciate the hard work all of our first group of Recallers put into their videos.
It’s neat that you hold these contests. Congratulations to all the winners. Thank you for sharing.
I received the “getting in the back door” notice late yesterday and by the time I went to sign up it said you are not taking anymore, does this mean I don’t get into the next session, I was a brillant subscriber, I am really bummed right now.
Just watched the first webinar – great job! I understand about making lists of what your dog finds reinforcing. But what about that new puppy where you don’t know each other well enough? Should you make a list of reinforcers that ANY dog MIGHT like, and then when your puppy encounters it you then rank it? And in the process of getting to know that new puppy and what turns him on (or off), how often should you revise the lists? Have you found that the dog’s tastes change as they grow as to what they find reinforcing (or not reinforcing)?
Thanks so much for the Webnair. It really hit home for me tonight. My dog has a good recall and loves running agility. But tonight I went to the field to set up for a co-op class. I let her run around the field and she chased cars down the fence line. When it was time for class. Our run was crazy. She was taking off multiple times for jumps way to early and dropping the bars. Leaving the weave poles early to go to the tunnel and jumping off the teeter too early. What the heck was wrong with her? Then I came home and listened to the webniar (twice). Boy did the part about the environment having more value than me, hit home. Yes she stayed with me and ran the course but was crazy. Going way wide around jumps too. Now I know the reason why. Thanks for the help. I cant wait until tomorrow.
Darn, pipped at the post by 1% *lol* Thanks to everyone who voted for my video, I was very thrilled to make it to top 15, especially with all the other awesome videos people made. Congrats to all the winners you certainly deserve it! Ever since the video contest started it has got me more and more enthusiastic about Recallers 2.0 and I now can’t wait to start 🙂
Suggestion to everyone becoming a ‘Recaller’ for the first time – take some video (or write a few paragraphs) of your dog NOW before it starts so you can have something to look back on. Sometimes you come so far it is hard to believe some things were ever a problem, and it is wonderful when you can realise what progress you’ve made.
Enjoy! I know we did (and will again :>)
Kim
Great idea Kim! Its great to use to see improvements in relationship, confidence, speed and you get to see some of your own training improvements!
Lynda Orton-Hill
Say Yes Instructor, Alberton, ON
Great suggestion to take photos/videos prior to the course. I plan on doing just that. Thanks for the tip.
Congratulations to the winners and a big thank you to everyone who submitted a video, and to Susan for sharing them all along with the great webinar.
We missed the first recallers course but the videos really inspired me to get on with it and commit to doing some high quality recall training for just five minutes a day. Wow, is all I can say – so looking forward to the new course starting and hoping we get in.
Congratulations to all winners!
The first webinar is great and I am really looking forward to the next two.
Susan, I want to commend you for all that you “freely” give to the agility community. Unlike some others you do not charge for every 5 minutes of training ideas. I follow your blog, have ALL of your ebooks ,books and DVDs and use the information over and over in my training. I am my seasoned 7 year old dog’s “cookie” and have no need for the recallers course, however I appreciate the opportunity to preview your new material.
Cheers,
Jean
I watched the webinar, and it was absolutely wonderful! I’m busy with my list of reinforcements, though it is making me wonder why my dog loves paper towels so much!
I’m holding my breath about whether or not I will be able to make it into your recallers 2.0 course! I really think it would be a great benefit to me and my puppy 🙂
Congratulations to all!! … but who was in 4th Place??
3rd and 4th place were a tie between Helen’s Talking Dobie and my video Recalls out of Slovenia. Sweet!
Your “Recalls out of Slovenia” was my favourite……. really pleased you ended up Top 5.
Hi Susan, I did not receive the email for the webinar and was not allowed to “subscribe” twice. The error message said I could try again in 7 hours and 21 minutes I believe. Will I still have access to the first webinar at that time. I sure don’t want to miss it:)
Thanks:)
Same here, no confirmation for the webinar, says I can try again in 2+ hours.
Susan, you know the recaller 1 webinars are you still planning to put them onto dvd’s so we can buy them?? (pleasssseeee!!) Thanks
The webinar is very helpful in reminding us to see reinforcement from the dog’s perspective…a major key in all the dog’s training.
The webinar was great. I am so HAPPY you are sharing your insite and talent with the world on line! Are previous recallers going to have an option to audit this upcoming course?
I am looking forward to the next course, Congrats to all the winners, with how hard everyone worked and how hard the people with videos worked to bring people to the web site, and how many people each of the videos got to sign up for the next course, it is too bad they all did not get the next course!
Congrats to the winners!
I love the webinar Susan — thanks so much for posting it. I think I can identify at least 3-4 mistakes I’m guilty of when working on recall with my young Aussie girl. My biggest issue is she’s hugely food motivated, so if she happens to find someone’s picnic lunch at the park there’s not a snowball’s chance in hell she’ll recall away from it. So we’ve been working on building value for toys and games while out — hopefully that’ll help a bit.
I’m looking forward to the next episodes!
Thank you so much for this opportunity, Susan! What a weekend of networking this was for me. I even went to a dog show on Sunday that I wasn’t entered in to ask friends, friends of friends, and acquaintances for help voting. I took a stack of flyers I printed on lilac paper in a big tote bag and passed them out while I gave a short spiel about the course and the contest.
Thank you to everyone who supported me and voted for my video, Talking Dobie. Every vote counted. It was a tight race. Congratulations to all the winners and all who entered. And especially a hands across the Internet handshake to Lollipop. I know how hard you were working for votes, Lollipop, because I was working just as hard, and I am so glad we both got a spot. 🙂 Hugs!
Jason did a fabulous job on the computer side of things. 🙂 And now it’s time to look forward to the classes! Thanks again, Susan!
Congrats!!! Dobies Rule!
🙂 I think so, too. Thanks Kat.
Helen,
Congrats on our tie:)) I see you took getting the votes to another level. No trial for me this weekend, but the fliers sound like a great idea! I bugged everyone on facebook, through mails… It was a very tight vote, your vid, mine and Lollipop’s were going from 42% to 45% all the time. But I’m so happy we won. I have been obessing about contact course (I hope it will be contact course) ever since Susan mentioned ”we do 30 games for teeter” in one of the webinars. Talk about irritation being motivation – I had to learn the secrets about those 30 games, especially since I got such amazing results with the games we did in first Recallers course. I am even waiting with contact training with my young sheltie (who could have been competing by now) – I want to do it right:))
Hi Tarcika! Thank you and congratulations to you, too, on our tie. 🙂 I also did the Facebook pleading, e-mailing, and going to co-workers. We all were very busy networking this weekend.
There are so many topics that Susan could present. It will be interesting to find out what the new course will be about. I’m sure we will learn a lot whatever it is. I hope you find some answers to your contact training in the meantime!
I just watched the webinar and I loved it. I have a really busy week and did not think I had 22 minutes to spare but once I started watching I could just could not shut it down! I loved the way it points out the problems but also gives lots of reinforcement to the belief that it CAN be fixed. Thanks Susan, I needed that review!
Love the first little bit, like being invited to a private party! LOL
Yes Denise, do tell?!
Webinar is brilliant of course 🙂 Even after being part of Recallers 1.0 there is a slide in the presentation that blew me away…… had a major light bulb moment!
Thanks!!!!
Ok, Denise, don’t keep me guessing – I want to know which slide was your light bulb moment!
Hi Bonnie and Shelley
The slide is 17mins and 4 secs in to the presentation…. “Poor Strategic Use of Reinforcement”… it actually made me exclaim out loud 🙂
Wuhu :)) Recalls from Slovenia made it on third place:))
As a part of the crew that was making this short movie I would like to thank everybody that voted for it.
Congrats to all the winners and everbody who participated with their movies 🙂
Marko – you were great help, couldn’t have done it without you!
Marko had roles of cameraman and soccer player with my older sheltie, which makes for the toughest distraction on the planet to my young sheltie man. A distraction so insanelly hard, yet turned around into a game with the help of Recallers course! Couldn’t have been prouder!
Congrats to all the winners. Well done and the videos were great and so much fun to watch!
D think we are missing the fourth winner Susan….
I just watched your webinar Susan and it was great! I will definitely revisit this one this week. Thank you s much fr the time and effort you put in to coaching us all around the world.
Yesss !!!! Lollipop and i are so happy ! We still have got so much to learn from Susan Garrett that i would like to thank Susan for this contest and you all the people who have voted for our video giving thus the opportunity to learn more !
Special thanks to Georges, Fred, Caro, Laurent and Pauline ! And congrats to all the other winners !
A few words here from Lollipop 🙂

Bonnie, i’ve just fixed the problem ! Now i hope you can see what Lollipop wants to tell you !
