So back from the USDAA regional last weekend and I will write about it later, but for now I am going to post the last of my Canadian Nationals videos. This is the 2 standard classes that where offered. Take a look at the standard courses here Neither course was a “gimme” for anyone, they were pretty challenging course. For some reason 6 weave poles always gives people trouble.
Ok here are the runs.
Feature won the first standard class and Encore won the second. In both classes the skill of contact independence made the handling of the course much easier. You will notice that I don’t go anywhere near the end of either dog walk contact. I wrote about this about a month ago, those of you that did the homework would have been glad for it, had you come to Canadian Nationals!
Today I am grateful that the rain has stopped here, the pond is overflowing and the grassed just soaked.
Hello my girlie!!!!!! Wow—those runs were gorgeous! That is what I miss most about my agility days! That poetry in motion oneness and connection. I am not sure who misses it most–dilemma has been going a bit batty lately since I sold most of her play toys. It made me sad when they came and picked it all up! I cried…like a baby to have closure to that part of my life. Lucky me—i get to watch with your baby dogs and see them become phenomenal partners with you! Pls give baby D her backscratching from her auntie Lisa. And a big hug to John! Ttfn….I pray you always Enjoy The Ride! We miss you lots….Dilemma & the Momma
Susan,
I am trying to find the “dog walk contact” blog entry – (without success)
can you advise what date it was (or what the “title” was?
Note: I also REALLY appreciated your entries re the 4 stages of trialing –
I have gone back to read them several times – and probably will AGAIN!
There is SO-O much valuable information in your blog – you’re an AMAZING resource!
Cheers,
/Abigail B.
There’s a moment when that spectator gives that spontaneous little “wow” , it just says it all.
Re: stopped and running dog walk
Do you have different cues for the different contact behaviours or do you give your stopped contact behaviour release command early (ie before she has stopped)? If you have two different cues, which do you teach first?
Also, I am struggling with the concept that by teaching a cue to turn away from you isn’t a ‘motherflicker’ – can you clarify for me?
Thank you for putting up these videos – you are helping me to be more ‘zen’ in my handling and not rush – I watch them and try to imagine myself running in your place and how it would feel ( might sound a bit nuts but works for me!)
Thanks for posting all the videos! I got to watch a couple in person at the event and was so inspired – I love watching teams that seem so connected and fluid – I know you say it’s more about science then art but your runs look like poetry to me. It’s great to be able to watch the ones I missed.
Andrea
Hi guys
I use a verbal cue for my dogs to turn away and take the tunnel that is opposite to me. Encore has both a running and stopped dogwalk. I this run I cued her to run the dog walk and while she was on her way I cued her to turn left into the turn (my cue is “swing”). Knowing she would do it I hung back to pick her up out of the tunnel. Thanks for watching!
Beautiful runs!. One thing I’ve noticed is the beautiful running A-frames that your girls have. I’d be interested in learning about the method how you trained them?
Thanks!
Awesome runs with both girls 🙂 but I also need to know how you made Feature turn (12-13) throughout tunel, is fascinating and looks sooo easy!
I think I have the same question as Andrea, except the dog we are talking about is Encore, not Feature (run 2, dogwalk #12 to tunnel #13). How does she know to turn away and take that tunnel? I can’t see a position cue, please tell me if I’m missing it or if it’s verbal. Thanks!
On run 2 – on the dog walk – how did Feature know to take that tunnel? You were off-side waiting at the exit and she had to turn away from you on the blind side to take it. Did you use a verbal cue there? I can’t see how else she would have known coming out of that tunnel at mach speed to make that sharp left.
Lilli and I are still working on our distance and looking at this run, I certainly would have to be on the tunnel entrance side to cue her in…
Beautiful runs with the baby dog! 🙂
Clicking on the video takes one to the “Results” page. I did view it by going directly to YouTube. Beautiful contacts with both dogs. Once again, you made this difficult run look effortless with your girls.
Brio has independent contacts, but unfortunately she also likes to independently “self release” in the trial environment 🙂
Always more to work on…
