I love the internet. All the good info that is available at your fingertips. Yesterday morning I had a pretty bad asthma attack. I used to have asthma as a kid but haven’t owned an inhaler for 15 or 20 years now, so it as weird that I would have an attack. It was about an hour after I worked out, so at first I thought it had something to do with that. But the symptoms got progressively worst, to the point I thought I may have to go to the hospital as my lung capacity was quickly diminishing, then I started to have some other weird gastrointestinal symptoms. That was when I knew it wasn’t a normal asthma attack. Then John, the voice of reason, stepped in and asked me what I had eaten differently with my breakfast. I had add some fresh pineapple. So I jumped on the internet and discovered a study with latex allergic patients (which I am), where 19% exhibited IgE antibodies to pineapple where ingestion of pineapple has been reported to cause asthma, rhinitis and gastrointestinal symptoms (that was my morning). So a little Benadryl latter I was breathing normally (albeit a little drowsy) so lesson learned!
Offer beneficial free services on the internet are the daily delivery of motivational or inspirational messages (or even dog training tips:)). I love these and subscribe to a few of them. Here is one that I got this week that identifies how we may conduct ourselves during a challenging situation;
Everyone in this world walks around with two buckets… A bucket of gasoline and a bucket of water. When you see the spark of a problem fire being lit, we can choose to douse it with water and put it out. Or we can throw gasoline and make it worse. Choose wisely… (Have a peaceful week!) Rev Run.
On a similar note, I did say I would not censor any comments coming into this blog however, I have had a change of heart. Once I allowed one anonymous poster to get through (which I thought was eloquent and fair with his or her criticism of me), I apparently gave the right of passage for someone to send me hate mail. If you have some constructive feedback for me, I am keen to hear it. However, I have tried very hard to keep this website a place where people know they will read upbeat information presented in a light hearted way. I don’t see any purpose in allowing any anonymous posters with an obvious dislike for me, to change the positive atmosphere I have tried to establish. Please examine the motives in your own life, that is all I ask.
Here is another great quote that arrived in my inbox recently;
“Everything you are against weakens you. Everything you are for empowers you.”— Wayne Dyer
Wayne Dyer ROCKS! If you are looking for something worthwhile to read (or listen to) try his book, “The Essence of Being in Balance” it is a good one, I have it in my ipod.
Have a great weekend everyone. We have a full Tweener camp this weekend. It should be a great one. All students have been to a minimum of one other camp with us here (either Puppy Camp or Skills Camp), that means Tweener camp is always a fun one! I will try to get some video for you.
Today I am grateful for the optimistic, good-hearted people that have become the focus of my life.
Susan, I found “Being in Balance” by Wayne Dyer but not “The Essence of Being in Balance” is it the same thing?
Check out http://www.gravatar.com if you want a personal picture next to your comment.
I am grateful for you giving me goals to aim for in my training and helping to steer me in the right direction! This person probably got lost!
Thank you for today’s quotes – you will never know how absolutely perfect they are for me and a group of my friends today.
I am grateful for the internet and how it enables me to connect with other positive people all over the world.
Amanda – how did you get the pic of your dog instead of the graphic?
The uplifting spirit of this blog is a huge motivator – it makes me want to run home to my dog and play some more fun games!!
Another wonderful and uplifting blog I read (and that you might enjoy) is: The Happiness Project, http://www.happiness-project.com/
ohh….thanks for the Wayne Dyer recommendation. Someone else just recently recommended him to me. Synchronicity! Now I will def. check him out. 🙂
That is really interesting! Both my husband and I are allergic to latex (he has a much more severe reaction than me, but we are both allergic!) – I will have to remember to watch it when we eat pineapple!
Today I am exquisitely grateful for people like you in my life, Susan, who uplift my spirit and energize me into being an inspiration for others around me. Happy Fridy the 13th, everyone – it is a beautiful day. Having just received “Crate Games” by mail yesterday, I can’t wait to watch it and play new games with my doggies.
Thank you for helping me understand the difference between positive, and permissive, Susan.
It loks like when you are the one who give good information there are always others to somehow “hates” you…why? don´t know…I have similar problems here in Spain…My option: if you don´t like a behaviour just ignore it or at least don´t reward it with your attention…why that people has to take any time of you or make you feel bad when you have lots of other people giving you good feedback?. Please keeping your way.
I love your way…thank you very much for this site and your good vibration…
Why do people have to be so miserable. Geesh. If they don’t like you, they don’t have to read you. Simple solution.
Yes- please keep the positive upbeat energy with the site and comments!If you have something thoghtful and constructive to say I can see that- but hate mail? Over dog training? Wow. Dog training should be fun. I discovered positive reinforcement and shaping when saw ear pinches in obedience. Yipes. That didn’t look like fun to me and I dont think that cruel critism is either.
