Running free as fast as she can also builds that fluid, forward motion rather than the "hippity hop" that many dogs, particuarily small dogs display. Worthwile topic to be used by all dog handlers! Thanks!

I love the idea of 8 weeks off - a nice break for people and dogs! I try to get my dogs to an off leash area as often as possible - but the ticks were so bad this year 2 of my dogs came down with Lyme (even with the vaccine and Advantix) so I was torn with wanting to let them run versus their health! No question I stopped taking them into the woods, but after a few hard frosts, we are back out and running!

susan --

most excellent post(s)! we all have a tendency to get sooo absorbed in the individual tasks involved in achieving success for the sport, and forget to have fun letting the dogs be dogs!

Awesome post, Susan!!! I am shocked at the number of agility dogs that never get to run free. If given the choice, I will always choose our daily hikes over training as the dogs and I get so much out of it. Great conditioning, awesome energy outlet and lots of recall practice for the dogs and pure joy for me! I just love watching my dogs run through the fields and woods as fast as they can. Thanks for sharing such an awesome blog!

Great topic.
I just came from a 2h walk with my dog in heavy rain. Both soaked and muddy but happy. ;-)
My dog doesn't run around with other dogs (just Parson Terriers) but she loves running full after her ball all over the place as it bounces in all different directions.
Luckily we live right at the edge of a forest so we get to walk for at least 2h in the woods, meadows and over hills everyday.

Coming to camp at Say Yes is like an inoculation, and this wonderful blog is a welcome booster. Each one is such a thoughtful meditation on something doggy. The wind-chill here was -2 so we skipped the walk and run in the park(city folk don't get to the woods everyday.

Feels good to come in from a long walk in a snowy forest, check up on the blogs, and find someone has just blogged about walks.
My conscience could not have been better!
(Except I should have been studying for my exam, not walking the dogs, but whatever...)
